This Torquay household was running a swimming pool, a spa and a heat pump, and the power bills showed it. Daily grid usage sat near 100 kWh, costing around $600 a month. The family knew something had to change, they just hadn’t found a company willing to design around how they actually live.
Winki Energy scoped and installed a 23.27 kW solar system sized to the household’s real load rather than a standard package off a price list. The setup: Trina panels paired with a Sigenergy SigenStor, which handles both the 20 kW inverter and the battery storage in one stacked unit, all installed in-house by our own electricians.
Two days after switchover, the monitoring told the story. Grid draw of 4 kWh on day one. 1.5 kWh on day two. The pool pump runs when it needs to, the spa heats without anyone doing the maths, and the hallway lights at night are just lights again.

What the Homeowner Needed
The homeowner came to us already knowing the problem. What he wanted was a straight answer, not a sales pitch dressed up as engineering.
He’d spoken to several other companies first. Each one came back with different numbers, different designs and different promises. Some quoted figures he couldn’t verify. Others proposed systems that looked fine on paper but had nothing to do with how his home runs: the pool, the spa heat pump, and the evening load that comes with a full house.
He needed an honest assessment from someone willing to size a system for a genuinely high-consumption household, then stand behind the install.

Our Objectives
Once we understood how the household runs, the brief was clear:
- Design for a genuine 100 kWh daily load, not an average home
- Account for the pool, the spa heat pump and the evening peak when everyone’s home
- Take the worry out of running high-use appliances
- Deliver a measurable drop in grid draw from day one
- Install cleanly, communicate throughout, and leave the property exactly as we found it

The Outcome
Against a starting point of 100 kWh a day, grid draw of 1.5 to 4 kWh is the kind of shift that changes how a family lives in their home. High-use appliances now run on the home’s own power instead of racking up a bill.
The homeowner works in the trades himself, so he knows what a tidy job looks like. He was away during part of the install, came back, opened the gates, and found the place exactly as the crew had left it. No mess, no loose ends, no follow-up calls needed. That mattered to him as much as the numbers.
Within weeks he’d recommended Winki to his business partner, whose system went in the following week, and to his neighbour as well.
In the Homeowner’s Words
“Winki’s was the most honest and was the only one that designed the system for our house and furthermore designed it for our family and how we use. That was where Winki came on top.”
I opened the gates and drove down the driveway and everything was done and it was like they’d never been there. As a businessman myself, in the trade sector, if you can have a client come back and something’s done and it’s like some trade’s never been there, they’ve done an amazing job.
I can’t fault it. They communicated with me while I was away. They asked questions, they did call, there were some text messages. So they did care.
Electricity bills are only going to get higher and higher. So the worth in the system, the financial purchase of the system is only paying off itself quicker. I’ve recommended Winki to my business partner. He’s actually had his system installed last week. I’ve recommended it to our neighbour as well. If anyone did come to me, hence why I’m sitting here, I would 100% recommend them.”
